The tradition of thorough English language teaching at Miina Härma Gymnasium dates back to the year 1961. Based on the school curriculum English is taught extensively at all levels of the gymnasium. All of the graduates of Miina Härma Gymnasium acquire an education based on the Estonian national curriculum and in addition also on the English language curriculum. In order to give more opportunities for the students to differentiate their curriculum based on their interests, abilities and what they wish to study in the future, there are three possible choices. When the student wishes to pay more attention to the study of humanities, he or she can choose the curriculum of humanities. This includes additional subjects such as drama and debate, where students can lean to use their voice, express themselves and perform in front of an audience, and additional courses of world literature. The second option is the curriculum of realities which emphasises the study of such subjects as chemistry, mathematics and physics. Thirdly, students can choose the curriculum of natural sciences. This means that there are additional courses of biology and geography.
English language at Miina Härma Gymnasium What makes Miina Härma Gymnasium stand out in terms of English is the larger number of English language lessons per week or per term and additional subjects taught in English both in the 8th form as well as at gymnasium level. Therefore Miina Härma Gymnasium has worked out a specific curriculum and students use specialised materials and textbooks. The latter are mainly by British authors or compiled by the teachers of Miina Härma Gymnasium. An important part of the studies are the annual study trips to Great Britain for the 11th form students and to Tallinn for the 10th form students.
